Easy-Peasy Valentine's Day Cards

The card bases and matching envelopes come in sets of eight for 97-cents at Walmart. Most of the images are the $1 stamps from Michaels, others are from my collection. I used my Close To My Heart ink pads, designer paper and cardstock where needed from my scraps bin and embellishments from my stash. The only exception is are the glittered chipboard hearts, which are from Walmart, considered table confetti in a package of 24 for 97-cents.

Easy-peasy, inexpensive and quickly made. These are ready to go for quick notes on Valentine's Day.

Sorry that the portrait cards are landscape. They're portrait in the photos and on my computer, but in uploading to blogger, they switched and I can't figure out how to fix it. :( If anyone knows, please do share :)

Sadly, I haven't participated in a challenge in forever. This week though I was inspired by the challenges going on at Mojo Monday and Our Creative Corner. The card I created works for both challenges, using the sketch from Mojo Monday and the color scheme from Our Creative Corner.

I used Close to My Heart Cardstock, My Mind's Eye double-sided designer paper (both sides) and a bunch of Prima Flowers. The gemstones and buttons are from my stash. I did rough up the edges a bit, made the card a little more rustic. Originally I thought I'd do some sort of boy card, but I loved the flowers too much to go that route.

Exploring My Softer Side

I'm not usually one to play with the vintage-ish, shabby-chic type of stuff, but this K & Company Collection spoke to me. I loved the color combinations, the subtle busyness of the patterns and just the overall feel I got from these supplies. I just couldn't help myself, and I was very pleased with how quickly I was able to put together a vast assortment of cards. I like how they turned out, and better yet, my customers did too, these sold just as quickly as I could make them.

At least that is what it feels like to me. My life has gotten hectic with lots of things, and sadly my crafting has taken a back seat. Where I used to dedicate time each day to my paper crafts, I'm now lucky to get a day or two a month in. Oh well, variety is the spice of life right?

One of the things that keeps me quite occupied is work. I am currently the Personnel Manager for Walmart Store #4641 in Huntley, Illinois. I absolutely love my job and it has afforded me some really cool opportunities in the last several months. One of these opportunities was my attendance at the 2011 Shareholders' Meeting last month which was an amazing experience. Please take a look at the video below to check it out.

My son, Eli is now six, he is a busy boy with school and Kids' Club. He is enjoying his summer before starting 1st grade in just a few short weeks. It's been fun getting to spend some time with him during the week, enjoying being outside riding bikes around the block and blowing bubbles, even going to the Woodstock Water Works and $1 Movies --- six has been a super-fun age. My husband, Bill is still plugging away and his website is now gaining some traction, so if you have a car fella in your life, send them over to the Crittenden Automotive Library. He's got oodles of stuff on his website about cars, modeling, cruise-nights and racing, so be sure to check it out.

Because I'm a nerd, and I feel so out of touch with my online paper crafting friends, I'm going to answer three questions about myself and ask you the same. Feel free to post a reply to this post with your answers. Ya never know, I may even feel compelled to pick a winner and send out some blog candy!

1. What has your favorite movie been so far this summer?

Going to have to go with the final Harry Potter, I mean really, just duh - that is the obvious answer. However, I will give props to Transformers 3, we really liked that one too, thought it was much better than the second movie. Oh, and Cars 2 was cute too, I loved Mater with his costumes.

2. What was the silliest thing you've done this summer?

Went gay bar-hopping with a group of people from five different countries in 100-degree weather while in a college town. It was outrageous and a whole lotta fun. Completed with a rainbow flowered headband, umbrella drinks and a bit of dancing. Language difference be damned, we all got along fabulously.

3. What's the best thing you've had to eat this summer?
Gonna sound silly, but the best food I've had this summer was at the Family Reunion, ya know, the place where you can get potato salad that tastes exactly what potato salad is supposed to taste like, the perfect devilled eggs, delicious taco salads, amazing brats and burgers, and more desserts that anything else. Other than that, I went to Epic Burger in Chicago last week, and yes, the burger was epic and the strawberry shake was amazing!

After using the card kits to complete a set of four cards, I decided I'd take these two designer papers and make another set. Again, I went for shapes and styles of cards that I don't ususally do which was more challenging that I originally thought it would be. I also am not a very purple person, but these patterns spoke to me and I'm so glad I listened, because I'm really happy with how they turned out.

Again, though all of the cards are very different, they all have the same designer papers, and a boat-load of sparklies and flowers.

Card Kit Tildas (Thanks T.)

I used a Magnolia Card Kit I received in a swap (thanks Teresa) to make this quilting-inspired card for an 80th Birthday. I really do love the Basic Grey designer papers, the colors weren't ones I normally play with, but I sure did enjoy them. So much so, that I used the scraps from my own kit and begged my Mom's kit off of her so I could keep playing.

It was fun creating a set of four cards that were all unique in shape and style, but still had the same designer papers, Tildas, lace and butterflies. All together there is a square card, a 3.5X5 with rounded corners, a rectangle with stand out card, and a flip over card.

Blue Skies and Sparkly Rainbows for Jenna

As Jenna, such an amazing girl was getting ready to head off to Bradley University for her freshman year in college and I wanted to send a special card. The Greeting Farm stamp reminded me of Rainbown Brite so that is how I colored her, and went with a sparkly rainbow theme for the card, using a little bit of Doodlebug designer paper and cardstock, some cute gingham ribbon, and lots of gemstones :)

This has got to be one of the cutest stamps ever, I absolutely love the Greeting Farm if for nothing more than this little fella with the dinos. And really, who doesn't want a card that says "rawr!" I used a unique shape of a card just for a little flair and designer papers from My Mind's Eye. The foil stickers were given to me by my five-year-old son, who told me he had "the perfect stickers" for my card. Such a sweet boy :)

So many flowers with Butterfly Tilda

I adore this card, it's rare but true -- I really love how this turned out. I kept working with the some of my most favorite Doodlebug designer papers, stickers, sugar-coated cardstock and flowers. I also was sure to incorporate punches, which was the challenge for Roses on Paper -- my favorite punch being the swirl at the top behind the butterfly. Tilda is colored bold and bright, has the wire and beaded antenas that I loved to add. The flowers are a mix of Primas, punches, stickers and sequins with bead, brad and gemstone centers, behind them is a punched-out glittery vine too.

This started off as a fairly simple card, but I couldn't resist just adding mor :) I used white-core texture cardstock for the base, so after embossing I sanded to make the raised design more pronounced. I also realy like the buttons with this, just brings more authenticity to the card.

I had so much fun making this card! I'm not usually one to go the clear card route, but my wonderful scrapping friend, T., sent me an acetate card and I was itching for a challenge. It worked out great because the blog hop challenge on Magnolia-licious Highlites was to you acetate on a spring-themed card. I went with that theme and then incorporated the sketch from Our Creative Corner's weekly challenge to come up with this card. What I really like about this was using the "hi there" brad to have the sentiment as a flower center, and I really loved using the wire and beads to make antenas for Tilda's headband.

That is where I am at with some of my 2010 scrapping goals, well really, just the goals that pertain to being online. I haven't posted at all, which totally bums me out, but I have been creating, I've been keeping up with Project 365 and I've been doing Birthday RAKS. Anyway, time to get back into the swing of things, just gotta find a better balance with life so I can. Stay tuned, I haven't forgotten, just have gotten side-tracked.

Year-Round Christmas Frame Card

I've got to be honest and say, this isn't my favorite card ever, but I finished it and am posting it, because I did spend quite a bit of time working on it. I just don't think Frame Cards and I are meant to get along...that said, I'm making it a personal mission to try them again until I complete one I'm pleased with. :) Anyway, this card was completed for the Year-Round Christmas cards on the Magnolia-Licious Yahoo Group. I love that idea, completing at least one Christmas card each month -- Christmas is my favorite theme for scrapping and card-making, I like that I now have an excuse to keep those supplies out all year. I also completed this card for the January Challenge at the Magnolia-Licious Highlites blog, which was for frame cards.

Woo-Hoo a Challenge Card!

Best part is that I've used this for two challenges. Paper Pleating was the challenge goal on Just Magnolia and Roses On Paper wanted us to show winter. Hopefully, this card accomplished that...

I used designer papers and chipboard from My Mind's Eye, cardstock is Bazzil, stamped image is from Magnolia and then various ribbon and bling. The image is colored with Copics and accented with Stardust Gelly Roll Pens. The card itself is a Z-Fold Card (which are my recent favorites).

Quickie Birthday Cards

It's been so long since I've made some simple cards, I hardly knew what to do with myself when I wasn't worried about five layers or paper and coloring an image :) I like how these birthday cards turned out. A simple Z-Fold card made of shimmery cardstock and designer papers, a glittery "Party Time" cut from Cricut with a shadow and a small gemstone flourish.

I know that many will be unimpressed, but I have finally figured out how to do a fancy signature on my blog! It's not difficult, I guess I just never put in the effort into the "how-to" of it before. For anyone else interested in doing this, super-simple:

1. Create a signature - use Photoshop, GIMP, Publisher whatever you want, make it look however you'd like. The only thing you have to do is make sure it has a transparent (clear) background and then save it as a .PNG file.
2. Upload you file to Flikr or Photobucket, then copy the link for the HTML code
3. From you Blogger Dashboard, go to the SETTINGS TAB, then under FORMATTING, at the bottom, paste in that HTML code.

That's it, easy peasy!

Project 365 : Day 1

No worries, I promise I won't post my photos everyday. I'm just happy to get started. For my first photo I decided to take a picture of our Christmas tree because I'm NOT taking it down. I am usually a Christmas purist, everything decorated in bright red and green, however, this year, we deviated from tradition and decorate the tree in royal blue, teal and aqua. As my Mom said to me "you don't decorate a tree, you embellish it", and I guess I really do. My tree is glowing with lights in different colors and sizes, it's sparkled to perfection with crystal and glittered snowflakes, picks and beads.

The tree is simply too pretty to take down, so we're leaving it up for January. I will get rid of all other Christmasy decorations, but I've decided to leave my snowflakes up for the month of January. I have wanted to do this for years, the idea of a year-round tree is a huge goal/fantasy for me. I figure I could redecorate it for each month. I know I sound silly, but it appeals to me in a way I just can't explain. Anyway...

I have also created a topper for the month in my 365 Album, along with weekly calendars, journal boxes and some stamped images. Here is what I'm starting with...

After meeting my 2009 Scrapping Goals I am super-excited about setting and meeting 2010 Scrapping Goals. This year, I've set five for myself. They may not seem like much, but they're what I'm going with.

PROJECT 365 - Yep, I'm jumping on this bandwagon. I have a goal of taking and scrapping a picture for every day of 2010. Beyond the basics of doing that, I've made it more challenging for myself by deciding that I'm going to use my favorite "Berry Sweet" Collection to complete the entire album. Works out very well for me because I have so much "Berry Sweet" that I could complete six albums without having to buy anything, PLUS it is actually a challenge. I mean, if you've seen the line, you know that it doesn't work very well for a winter-theme, so I'm excited about trying to make it work!
MONTHLY CHALLENGES - I would like to participate and complete at least three challenges each month. Be it from a blog, a magazine or a group, I just want to actively participate in three each month. I'm all about expanding my papercrafting, so I thought this would be a great way to get me going.
WEEKLY BLOG UPDATES - I never intend to ignore my blog, but from time-to-time, a really long time will pass without an update from me. So, new goal for 2010 post something at least once a week. Between my 365 Album and completing challenges, I figure I'll have plenty to post about
BI-WEEKLY SPLITCOAST POSTINGS - I have wanted to become more involved on Splitcoast but haven't made the effort to do so. I really love the tutorials, ideas, swaps and inspiration that site has to offer, so I'm going to make more effort to be more involved.
MONTHLY BIRTHDAY RAKS for LUCKYBUGGERS & FRIENDS - I want to send a birthday card and small RAK to each member of my Luckybug Yahoo Group and other scrapping frineds.

So, those are my goals and I'm super excited to get started!

Soft Snowfall - A Tilda Easel Card

Very rarely am I proud of my own work...I have an "it's okay with shrugged shoulders" attitude about it. That said, I'm very proud of this card. There are a ton of details in here that the camera just can't capture.

I started this card as participation in the Just Magnolia Week 38 Challenge. I also have an ongoing challenge with myself to use designer papers in ways you wouldn't expect, so dug into my stash and pulled out Penny Lane. I also decided I'd give a go at an Easel Card, because it was 2am and I was feeling adventerous. As I was working on the card, I really loved the idea of popping out the entire center layer, it just gave so much more depth to the card.

The embellishments are what I had the most fun with. I wanted to use both flowers and snowflakes, and struggled at first on how to marry the two. I decided to just layer them up and see how they turned out. I combine soft and bold colors, added glitz with sparkly stickers, glittered brads, colored and glazed snowflakes and silver spacer beads. Under the trail of snowflake flowers are two larger snowflakes that I cut apart to create an irridescent garland. I also added a sheer ribbon to the main section for a bit of shimmer, stamped glittered snowflakes with gemstone centers onto the sentiment rectangle, and even added tiny gemstones into each punched hole of the scallop border. Every edge was inked then sparkled with a Stardust pen. Tilda herself is colored with Copics, then I added sparkle to her with the Stardust pens, and added a bit of Liquid Glass to the wine bottle in her basekt.

Like I said, I'm not really one to boast and I don't even mean to, I really just love how this card turned out. It was a challenge, I put quite a bit of work into it and I couldn't be more pleased with the results.

2009 Scrapping Goals

My goal for 2009 was to create 365 Items...after doing my final tallies, I'm thrilled to announce that I made 465 Items in 2009 with a couple of weeks to go! Just so excited that I had to share.

Now onto 2010...not sure what my goals will be just yet.

Tilda Under the Christmas Tree

I was inspired by the Magnolia-Licious Challenge to create a shaped card. I liked the idea of the tree-shaped card, but I really wanted to do something that would stand-up on its own. So I created a modified easle card for a tree with its skirt.

I just couldn't resist these cute little chickie stamps we found at an Expo. They have them dressed and ready for just about any holiday or occassion, all so stinkin' cute. I just loved this one in particular, perfect for wishing my Croppin' Chicks a "Merry Chicktmas".

Kept Me Busy...

I spent the end of October and the entire month of November working on a huge order of Christmas cards for an Etsy customer. I really, really love how they turned out. All of the designer papers are from various Basic Grey Christmas collections. I used an assortment of glittered papers and findings to create unique and detailed embellishments. The card itself is not overly complicated, but it is very detailed, making it very time consuming with all the sparkle pens and tiny gemstones. My favorite part though is that every card had a jingle bell attached.

Along with the card, I also created custom envelopes with return address.

Autumn JATCs

Sadly, I can't tell you who the paper or the journaling cards are made by; I got them from my Momma. I do know though that I really love how these turned out...even with the subdue colors for fall, I think these JATCs kept the boldness that I crave. I had a tough time deciding between the flowers and the Tildas, so I made some of each :)

Basic Grey Christmas Tags

When it comes to Christmas scrapping, I tend to be a bright red & green, happy patters and fun embellishments kinda gal. However, I have all of these wonderful designs in a huge range of colors and patterns from Basic Grey...which until this past weekend I considered myself a collector of considering I've never used it. Well, that all changes this year. I am determined to use more than Doodlebug to scrap this Christmas season, and so I've started with these tags. I really love how they turned out. The teal & brown snowflakes were so pretty, I'm loving the purple and red ornaments and being able to utilize so many different ribbons to match was so much fun!

24-hour PINK Crop

Though we didn't have as many scrappers this year for our PINK Crop, we still raised $350 for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation all while having a FANTASTIC time scrapping

this past weekend. I am so thankful for everyone who contributed, and I'm proud that we came together to do this!

Birthday Inchies

4-sided Desk Frame

These plain white chipboard frames are designed to hold a gift card, or small photo. They are only about $3 each, and I find them a bunch of fun to make as cute litte gifties. They are perfect for setting out on a desk or smaller table, since they don't take up much space and you can put photos on all sides. This one is done to hold a younger child's school photos. Made using the fun rainbow papers and cardstock from Doodlebug, and fun school patterned foil paper from DCWV.

I did hand stamp the quarter with the odd shaped cut-out frame, just to make it easier on myself :)

3am Scraps Card

So while scrapping with a group of gals this past weekend, around 3am my bestie announces that she is going to make a baby card (using horrifically outdated stickers and some very ugly paper). In teasing I tell her that I can make a pretty card using nothing but stuff dug out of my scrap bin,, and thus begins our challenge!

Very simple card, used only scraps of paper and ribbon. The gemstones were the last on their sheet, and the staples were already in the stapler. So minimal effort, about 10 minutes in time, and here is the froggy card.

I spent yesterday afternoon working on a 20-page Disney album with my sister (she and I have a good set-up : I design & cut paper, Laurie inks edges, glues pages together, mats & picks out photos, then I finish up by adhering photos & embellishing. We rocked-out 20 complete pages, plus another 20 that just need the photos and embellishments. It was great, and it totally got me inspired to start Eli's next scrapbook. Since I did his 1.5-3 year old pictures using Basic Grey's "Color Me Silly", I've decided that I'll do his 3.5-4 year old pictures using Basic Grey's "Lime Rickey". I've got all the supplies, now I just need to start working on the ablum. His first one is an ABC book in 8.5X11. I think I'll do another ABC album, but in 9X9.

June has past by us in a bit of blur -- I've kept busy by wrapping-up the school year with Eli and getting him ready for summer Pre-K, participating in Relay For Life, weekly play dates with Eli's buddy Masen, hanging out at the Races with family, getting rained out of a baseball game, movies, picnics, parties and who knows what else. A couple of fellow scrappers asked me what I color with - and here they are. I have these 36 colors along with a couple of Blenders, Black, Fruit Pink and Skin White. So far, these have been excellent for me. I prefer bolder and brighter colors. I'm also a big fan of the Gelly Roll Opaque White Pen and the Copic Spica At You sparkly markers.

Roses On Paper Challenge #7

I've never entered a challenge like this before, typically I complete them but never post it for anyone to see...or if I do post it, I never post it on the challenge-giver's website. But what the heck, I'm freeing the little chicken inside of me, and going for it. Really, it's a darn cute sketch, plus, I was super-pumped up with the Magnolia-licious March Mingle challenge of using a non-Easter Tilda to make an Easter card. So here she is, again using my all-time favorite Berry Sweet designer papers and embellishments. She's got a sparkly pink basket filled with eggs, she is sittng on a giant egg, and the sentiment says "happy egg hunt". All-in-all, I really like how she turned out.

The Tilda was an image I had, a fellow paper crafter sent her to me, so I don't know where she came from. The sentiment though is from the "March Word Puzzle" stamp set from Close To My Heart. The Word Puzzles are my favorite - there is one for each month and they're packed with stamps that just always seem to work out great for me. The eggs and basket are cut form the "Doodlecharms" Cricut cartridge and everything else is K&Co's "Berry Sweet".

Magnolia-Licious March Mingle

The challenge for this month's Mingle was to take a non-Easter Tilda (or Edwin) and create an Easter card. I'm pretty proud of this card. This is the first time I've tried to use an element that goes way off the card base, so I am diggin' the unusual shape. I also got to use a diecut for my sentiment's scallop. All those eggs are stamped, colored and cut out individually. Added on a few skittles and gemstones, put on some of my favorite ribbons and it just all came together. Best part --- I used my FAVORITE designer paper of all time, these are patterns from Berry Sweet Best Friends, which is totally girly, but rocks for my BOY Easter card.

I've been a busy bee, and these challenges just worked out to get two outta one. TTWI#22 was dedicated to Bella's birthday -- for me, that meant everything Bella hated, pink, ribbons and glitz! Nothing goes better with pink, ribbons and glitz than Tilda, so it really just worked out this way. To make the card slightly more Twilight-y, I did give her dark hair, thought she look a little like Alice.

P.S. - for anyone playing Saturday Survivor, I used the Cricut for my ovals.

Shamrock Crop

We had such a great monthly crop last Saturday that I just had to share a few photos. It was a big group, 20 scrappers for a full 12 hours...LOVE IT! I was busy playing hostess so I didn't get to much of my own stuff scrapped, but it was still so much fun! Bill and Eli came over at dinnertime, before Eli left he insisted on giving everyone a hug and kiss goodbye (he's such a ham). Christine generously brought us genuine Mardi Gras beads, the room looked like a Coi Pond at feeding time when I brought out the freebie totes, and we all enjoyed the company of good friends, lots of laughter and yummy food!

Card Quickie Class

I'm teaching a Card Quickie Class at my Saturday, February 28th Crop Day. It'll be a fun and QUICK class. I've got all three cards completely put together for each student with the exception of the flower embellishments and coloring the images. The technique portion of the class is how to use a blender pen (which is included in the class kit). Each card colors the image with a blender pen using three different mediums : ink, watercolor and pencil. I'm thinking that the whole class should take about 30 minutes. I can't wait!

Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge #18

Challenge #18 is for Twilight Valentines, which is simply perfect because through and through -- Twilight is a love story. My submission is made with love for my love. I chose a quote from Edward to Bella that seem to suit what I would want to say to my husband this Valentine's Day.

This is from Eclipse, two nights before "newborn elimination", when Edward and Bella are graced with a night alone together in the Cullen house. Edward says to his love "For this one night, could we try to forget everything besides just you and me? It seems like I can never get enough time like that. I need to be with you. Just you." Being a typical night-shift working wife and mother, the one thing I feel like I get enough of us is quality time with my husband, so this seemed very appropriate for us. I included another Eclipse quote inside the card, a line from Edward's official proposal "I promise to love you forever - every single day of forever."

I used the Heart of Winter Promotion products from Close To My Heart to create this card in my new favorite color combination of Creme Brulee, Tulip, Juniper and Sorbet.

Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge #17

Okay, this is the first time I've participated in one of these challenges, and truly it was a challenge for me. I'm not a card-carrying member of Team Jacob, so this particular challenge took some thought. Where I'm not in love with Jacob, I will say, I have a soft spot in my heart for him. I mean, the guy spends hundreds of pages tortured by his love for a girl who can never love him enough. And that is really why I choose the quote I did for my card.

For me, this part of Eclipse was a tear-jerker, when out of frustration and despiration Bella finally asks Jacob to kiss her. Her lack of enthusasim for his initial kiss brought him to say...

"You can do better than this, Bella," he whispered huskily. "You're overthinking it."

I shivered as I felt his teeth graze my earlobe.

"That's right," he murmured. "For once, just let yourself feel what you feel."

As you know the scene continues into Bella sharing Jacob's passion, and even taking a glimpse of what could-be of their future. (Yeah, I cried at the vision of their future...lame but true).

Anyway, that is why I chose this. I think Jacob always wants Bella to just feel the way she feels. If it is depressed, elated, furious or in love...just recognize the feelings and own up to them....because no matter what, Jacob accepts her as is.

Okay, so may or may not have noticed that my blog has been silent for the last month. I will say that I have been working a lot of back-to-back 12 hour shifts, and when I work, I work nights, so I'm pretty much useless the day after I work, so that is part of my excuse for neglecting my blog. The other part is that I finally picked up the Twilight books. All I can say is O.M.E.! I never expected to really like the books, let alone fall in love with a fictional teenager. I know I'm a bit behind jumping on this bandwagon, but what can I say? It really is better late than never.

Like millions of others, I have jumped into these books head first. Read, reread, re-reread and watched the movie a few times. I have the soundtracks, got a new ringtone, even redid my blog playlist. I've collected quotes to make a couple of tshirts, I've joined the Twilight Moms group as well as the Twilight Tuesdays Challenges group.

However, my main passion is papercrafting, so here is what I did...

I couldn't resist making my own Edward and Bella using the Paper Dolls Cricut cartridge. This is the married Mr. & Mrs., complete with wedding bands, golden eyes, and sparkly white skin. I know I should be ashamed of myself, but I'm not...I LOVE IT!

So is it just me or is anyone else making a Scrap Year Resolution? I've already told you that my theme for the year is Scrapping Mine in 2009. So obviously, yes, I want to make a point of scrapbooking for myself this year. I want to create an album that captures my everyday life for the year, I'd also like to start another album for my son, Eli. Beyond that, I have another goal. Silly as it may seem, I want to create 365 items in the 365 days of 2009. I've never tried to sell a card on eBay, but what the heck, I'm going to give it a try. We'll see if it works. This card is really adorable (if I do say so myself) using the fabulous My Mind's Eye "Be Merry" designer papers, the cute Milly on Yule Log stamp from Spiral Whisper colored with Copics and Spicas, and then glitzed up with some tiny clear gemmies and liquid glass.

Winter-ish Tilda Mini Frame

This is a fall Tilda wearing Christmas-ish colors, combined with Basic Grey paper to make a mini frame. The detail is really done in the coloring, embellishments are minimal with just a gemstone corner at the top.
